Controlling either Mario or Luigi, advance through the game by defeating enemies and reaching the goal at the end of each area within the time limit. There are four areas in each world. When you beat all four areas and finish a world, you will advance to the next world.

Losing a life

You will lose a life if you run into an enemy, fall into a pit or run out of time in an area. If you run into an enemy while you are Super Mario or Fire Mario, you will continue playing the game as normal Mario.

Game Over

If you lose all your lives, your game will be over and the following menu options will be displayed.

CONTINUE	Start from the first area of the current world.
RETRY	Return to the title screen.
