Basic Play
You control ‘Mega Man X’, Commander of the 17th Maverick Hunter Unit, in the fight against the Maverick Reploid rebels!
After clearing the first stage, the stage selection screen will be displayed. Use 
to navigate between stages, and

or 
to select the stage you wish to play.
Note: You can also replay stages you have already cleared.
If X falls into a hole, touches a certain kind of spike block, gets crushed against moving obstacles or his life energy gauge is depleted, he will lose a life. If he has no remaining lives, it is game over, and a password will be displayed. Press , 
, , 
or to continue your game.
Note: Your remaining lives can be viewed on the weapon selection screen.
