First, choose one of the three fighters from the Fighter Selection Screen. Press  left or right to select the fighter and press  ( for Classic Controller) to start the battle. The fighters are rated in three categories (“A” being higher than “B”), so go with a fighter that suits your play style.
Joining a Game in Progress:
During a single-player game, the second player can join the ongoing battle by pressing  from the second controller. The new fighter is determined based on the existing fighter, and will drop in from the top right corner of the screen.
