 Mota, a once peaceful tropical paradise and the shining jewel of the Algo Star System, is facing terrible oppression at the hands of an unknown evil. Strange, vicious creatures infest the countryside and people are afraid to leave their villages. It's up to you to uncover the mystery behind these grim circumstances and help restore Mota to its former splendor.
Following the SEGA logo, Phantasy Star II opens with the story that precedes your adventure. Press  at any time to display the Title Screen, then press again to begin your adventure.
After you start the game, select a menu item and press  or  ( or  for Classic Controller). Until you have saved your first game, only NEW GAME will be available from this menu.
NEW GAME: Begin a new game. You will be asked to enter a name for the main character (up to 4 letters).
CONTINUE: Continue a previously saved game. Select the slot containing the game you'd like to play. Up to 4 different games can be saved.
ERASE GAME: Select a saved data slot to delete saved data.
An automated sequence that introduces the story will then run. Press ,  or (,  or for Classic Controller) to scroll through dialogue.
