Depending on the circumstances, the following rules will come into play.

When a team kicks, throws, or runs the ball out of bounds, they lose possession. Three players from the opposing team line up against one player from the team that was out of bounds. The offensive team player presses , or (, or for Classic Controller) to select a player to carry the ball. The defensive player presses , or (, or for Classic Controller) to choose which offensive player to tackle.

Penalty Trio Attempt
If the defending team knocks the ball out of bounds in their own end zone, three offensive players line up in front of the goal.

• The offensive player presses , or (, or for Classic Controller) to kick the ball towards the goal.

• The player defending the goal uses to position the Goalie. When the offensive player kicks press ( for Classic Controller) and left or right to try to block the goal attempt. Pressing ( for Classic Controller) alone will make the Goalie jump for the ball.

Volley Shot
If the ball passes directly over a player they have a chance to kick a Volley Shot. A Volley Shot kicks the ball towards your opponent's goal. Player-controller characters will attempt a Volley Shot if ( for Classic Controller) is held down. The ball may pass above a player at such a great height that it is impossible to perform a Volley Shot.

Goal Kick
If the offense knocks the ball out of bounds in the other player's End Zone, then the defense's Goalie gets a Goal Kick. The defense controls the direction of the kick with . Press ( for Classic Controller) to kick.
