 Dr.
Robotnik’s Death Egg has once again been destroyed by Sonic, crash-landing
on the peak of a volcano on the Floating Island. Dr. Robotnik is still
out there somewhere, and Sonic cannot allow him to get his hands on the
Master Emerald and repair the Death Egg. Sonic must also keep Knuckles
off his back but Knuckles has problems too. As the guardian of the Floating
Island and all of the Emeralds, Knuckles must do his part to keep the island
safe.
When the Title Screen is displayed, select either “SONIC” to play as Sonic and track down Dr. Robotnik, or press  down to select “KNUCKLES” to play as Knuckles and recover the Master Emerald from EggRobo. Once a selection has been made, press  to start the game.
Lock-on Menu
If Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, or 3 have been purchased for the Virtual Console, the Lock-on Menu can be accessed. Please see p11 for more details about the Lock-on System.
