| Somewhere hidden within the castle are red, green, and blue Cap Switches. If you step on these switches, all of the semi-visible blocks of that colour in all courses will fill in. Jump at these blocks to break them open and reveal the caps hidden inside.

Red Blocks |
|
|
Red blocks contain Wing Caps. With a Wing Cap, Mario can fly for a short period of time. |

Green Blocks |
|
|
Green blocks contain Metal Caps. With a Metal Cap, Mario doesn't take damage from enemies, fire, water, or toxic gases. However, while wearing the Metal Cap, Mario won't be able to swim. |

Blue Blocks |
|
|
Blue blocks contain the Vanish Cap. With the Vanish Cap on, Mario can pass through fire and enemies without taking damage. He'll also have the ability to walk through wire nets and special walls. |
