Basic Play
During an archaeological dig, Dr. Cain unearthed the laboratory of the famous robot designer, Dr. Thomas Light. Although most of the lab was damaged, Dr. Light’s notes and a single capsule remained unharmed. The capsule contained the highly advanced robot, X. Dr. Cain activated X and was amazed that the robot had the ability to think and make his own decisions. X seemed more man than machine!
By making minor modifications to Dr. Light’s design notes, Dr. Cain began to construct a new generation of robots called reploids. These advanced robots soon became a part of everyday life, working with humans throughout all levels of society.

Suddenly, reploids started to go rogue and injure humans across the city. Dr. Cain could not explain why the robots were turning against humans. The powerful reploid Sigma was chosen to lead a group of hunters to stop the rogue robots. However, Sigma went rogue too and decided that all humans were inferior to reploids and needed to be eradicated.

Sigma and his group of rogue hunters have taken over the city. The last of the reploid hunters that are still loyal to humans are setting out to battle Sigma and his army. Led by the robots X and Zero, this small band sets out to save humanity!

System-Status Screen
View X’s internal system-status screen by pressing . This screen shows all special weapons available and their energy levels. It also indicates X’s main life energy meter, sub-tank life-energy level and lives remaining. Use to highlight any of the weapons and press to arm X with a weapon.

X is also equipped with an escape unit, which can only be activated if X has already cleared an area. If the area has not been cleared, the unit will not function. The escape unit allows X to explore some areas more fully without the need to travel to the end of the area.
Life-Energy Meter
X is powered by a micro-fusion fuel tank. His current life-energy level is indicated by a life-energy meter in the upper-left corner of the screen. Each time X is damaged, his life-energy meter will decrease. However, lost energy can be replenished by collecting standard energy capsules. Collecting the energy capsules will allow X to function indefinitely.

X has the ability to carry up to four sub-tanks to store an emergency energy supply. Once equipped with a sub-tank, any energy capsule that is collected when X’s life-energy meter is full will automatically be transferred to a sub-tank. Energy can be transferred from the sub-tank to X’s main life-energy meter by using the system-status screen. Press to activate the system-status screen, highlight the sub-tank with , and press to drain the tank.
