If you run into an enemy on a Field Screen, a battle will begin! Use to choose a command for Mario, then press to confirm. If you hit an enemy with a hammer or jump on an enemy while in the field, Mario will perform that attack automatically at the start of the battle.

Tactics	Change Party Member, run away, etc.
Items	Select an item to use.
Jump	Choose a jumping technique to attack with.
Hammer	Choose a hammer technique to attack with.
Star Spirit	Borrow a Star Spirit’s energy and use Star Power to use a special attack. Star Power will be restored little by little after each completed turn in battle.
Attack	Select an attack for the Party Member who’s in combat with you. Attacks will differ depending on which Party Member is on the screen.
